"The
"Maine" Thing"
Having just returned from the NMRA convention we're gearing back up in preparation of new projects that lie ahead. Yes, of course they'll be something new offered for the upcoming winter months (it's hard to think winter when it's 90-degrees here in Maine !)... as well as some smaller projects for our retail sales market. Milwaukee showed us a really grerat time. Aside from getting together and sharing some thoughts with Dave from JL Innovative Design and the crew at GC Laser we spent some serious time with the folks at Walthers in an effort to develop some new (and hopefully needed) concepts to help keep our hobby fun ! Those of you who attended the convention may have had a chance to share some time with Jim Mooney & myself at the clinic we presented, we're pleased so many of you were able to make some time available to share with us. So... "what's new" ???? Big question... simple answer... a lot ! New and on going projects include further refinement and development of more & more detail castings... both in white metal & resin. We've been busy with this project for over a year now and are continuing to strive to make our latest crop of kits the most detailed ever ! Yes... although we haven't had the time to produce them, we do have two new N-Scale kits in the works. Yes again to the O-Scalers... until we develop a new bevy of detailed castings we can't divulge the next O-scale kit... it'll be awhile but it's definitely in the works. Other new stuff... absolutely... but the projects are in "conceptual" & "design" stages at this point. Special Note To Dealers: In an effort to maintain current pricing to our customers we will be curbing the distribution of certain Bar Mills kits through traditional channels. Starting in September kits with a retail value of $50 or more will no longer be distributed. Kits under the $50 retail price will be available through our regular distribution sources. IF you are a retailer with a current account at one of current distributors and have a store-front our traditional kits over $50 retail will still be available directly to you from our shop here at Bar Mills. Please contact us at 207-929-3400 for further details. Stay tuned... we're gonna be having some fun. JIM MOONEY, LEN LEDNUM, NANCY & ART FAHIE & THE CREW OF BAR MILLS |

Introducing
The....![]() The Next "1 of 500" Kit ! ![]() If any building could look at home on any layout in any time period it has to be this one... and yes, we've pulled out all of the stops in trying to make something very, very special. While mot every layout builder will be partial to horse-drawn wagons we've included a couple... if you're running steam (or even early diesel) they would have been a part of everyday living regardless of where you were from. It's hard to compare this kit to any of our previous Bar Mills efforts... it has a homespun "Americana" look that most of us love but rarely achieve. The kit includes the usual white metal castings (the two horse drawn wagons in the kit include original horses we made especially for this structure), resin castings (that large vat on the left side of the building is another Bar Mills original). some terrific artwork, some of the new Northeastern Hi-Def windows and lamps, and an over abundance of charm. We showed this kit to one very well known modeler and he thought it was one of our best... what do we think ?... it doesn't really matter... it's what you think that counts... please let us know ! ![]() From the seltzer bottles to the lettered wagons we think this one tells one heck of a story. No, the vehicle is not included, but the wagons and horses are ! I remember as a kid in the 50's hearing the clippity-clop of the ice and vegetable vendors as they made their way down the streets... even though most of us are transition-era modelers it seems most of us have forgotten that memory... until now at least. This one will be limited to a run of 500 pieces and will start shipping in mid-late June. We took some time and put together a video on the construction on this one, once it's edited (it's almost 2 hours long) we'll post it on the internet for use as a reference. The overall footprint of our diorama is 8x12 inches. This is a Bar Mills direct purchase kit only, as are all of our limited-run kits. Give us a call at 207-929-3400 if you have any questions, or if you just want to share a though on this one... we're looking forward to hearing from you ! Price: $144.95 |
![]() HO
SCALE
/ $47.95
|
![]() This little "HO"
kit will be shipping before we head out to Milwaukee for the
convention. As a more "modest" kit than some of the high-end
things we've been doing as of late this one will also have a modest
price... $47.95. Karl Scholz built this one, of course Jim did
the engineering. For the diorama I did something unusual. I
headed down to my N-Scale "Niagara & Pearl Creek" (there's a link
for it on the website) and shot a photo of one of the city
scenes. After printing it out on my computer I mounted it and
affixed it to the back of this little diorama. Pretty cute if I
do say so myself !
The kit has some unusual features. Aside from a great sign (even a roof air conditioner) it features "screen doors" (you can't see them in this photo), as well as some colorful artwork to help make this building an eye catcher... regardless of its size. On a side note the kit got its' name from a place that actually existed sometime ago right here in Maine. Trust us when we say it was the "locals" that re-named the place... not Betty ! The overall size of this little guy is 7"W x 2.5"D. |
